Here geography has been done by the Creator in a very special way; mainly through long and short beeches with spectacular scenery. The greenness of its vegetation is completed by the crystal clear waters of its shores. The eternal amiability of its people together with their inns makes this land more adequate for rest and relax.
It has two important parks: Parque Nacional Paria, and Parque Nacional Turuepano. Both have wild forest reserves of considerable importance for humanity. It is also a reservoir for many different species –even the turtles choose this place to hatch their eggs. Paria is considered a true ecological sanctuary, and therefore it is an ideal place for nature lovers and people who seek tranquility.
For those fond of the culinary arts, this region of Sucre State can offer the newcomer dishes of different special flavors, due to the fact that here we also have the influence of Trinidad, and the French Antilles. Local cooking uses coco, and curry in their food preparations, especially when fish and shellfish are involved
There are places here that have seen the unfolding of important historical events. First it was the arrival of Cristobal Colon, around 1498, to the place which today is called Macuro. (Valdéz Municipality) Later in the nineteen century the first oil lake (lago de asfalto) was discovered and the name of the place was Guanoco (Benitez municipality) And now in the XXI-st century, Paria is preparing to become the center of energy resources of America. It will have one of the most important gas refineries called the: Gran Mariscal de Ayacucho Industrial Complex.
We have to mention here that the neighboring island, Trinidad, was part of our territory and during colonial times, the Spaniards sold it to England. |
